The role of the director of photography
Whether it’s a short film, a music video or a creative shoot, the director of photography decides what the viewer will see: the framing, the lighting, the depth and the movement. We work from the script and the director’s references, then propose a visual approach that runs from the first scene to the last.
We like natural light and a few carefully placed light sources. A simple, high-contrast image that is easy to make out, leaving room for creativity.
In preparation and on set
Before filming: location scouting, technical storyboarding with the director, equipment list, set plan. On set: framing, lighting, supervision of the camera crew, continuity checks. We can bring our own equipment (cinema-style camera, lenses, lighting) or adapt to the production’s equipment.
We also work as directors of photography on live performance recordings that require a more cinematic rather than documentary-style approach.
Prices and availability
Cinematography is charged on a daily basis, excluding equipment, starting at 250 CHF for independent or student productions. Professional projects are quoted based on the duration of the shoot and the equipment required. We travel throughout French-speaking Switzerland.
